Describe your job in 5 words
Interesting, stressful, rewarding, fun, challenging.
What does your job entail?
I am an Operations Co-Ordinator where I am responsible for the Transport/Logistics side of the business. I am also account Manager for various GUK Customers. I deal with their orders, stock control, deliveries and any production issues that may arise.
What does a typical day involve for you?
That all depends on what’s waiting for me when I open my emails, let’s just say my “to-do” list at the beginning of the day can change very quickly! This is one of the things I love about my job, every day is different. I am constantly being challenged and therefore also constantly learning.
How did you get into this line of work?
I worked for a newspaper for 15 years, so this line of work was completely new to me. I took over the Transport/Logistics side of the business back in October 2018, it’s been a learning curve but one that’s interesting and thankfully one that I am enjoying.
What’s the best part of your job at Goudsmit UK?
The staff, I’m lucky enough to work with a great bunch of people, there’s never a dull moment in the office. We work hard but there are always plenty of laughs. I think it’s so important to have the right balance. We are also very well looked after by management. They encourage us and want us to succeed, giving us every opportunity to expand our knowledge and skills within the company in order to progress in our career.
What personal qualities are required to do your job?
Excellent organisational and communication skills. Also being able to cope well under pressure. Within the Operations team we each have different roles, but we rely on each other for support and help, therefore it’s so important to have the ability to work well as part of a team.
What’s the biggest challenges you face in your job?
Vessel delays and manufacturing issues.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Receiving an order, having it produced, getting shipment on and off a vessel and delivered to customers with no hassle. If the customer is happy, we’re happy!
What’s the best piece of advice you could give to a new person joining your team?
Everyone makes mistakes, the important part is how we learn from them. Also, ask questions no matter how stupid you think it might be, it’s the only way you can learn.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love going to the gym and especially love boxing. I train at an amazing gym called Tribe, where I get to do both. A good 6am session sets me up for the day! But no doubt, I’m happiest spending time with my family.
Any fun / interesting facts about you?
I love cooking programmes; I could watch them all day, but I am quite literally the worst cook in the world. I can’t follow recipes; I tend to add my own spin to it which never turns out well.
What time will you get home this evening?
Some time after 5pm, I hope.
