    Corporate Responsibility 2022 Round-Up

    GUK 2022 donation round-up

Reflecting on our 25th year in business, we wanted to do more to help within our community. As a company we’ve always placed a focus on social and corporate responsibility. However, this year with the current climate and many of those in our local communities struggling, we wanted to give back.

Goudsmit UK are humbled to be able to help various clubs and charities within our communities. Therefore, as part of our birthday celebrations, Goudsmit UK give each employee £250 to donate to a charity of their choice. With this, we strived to empower our employees to leverage the corporate resources at their disposal to do good. Approaching the end of 2022, each employee has made their donations in which we look at below.

    Air Ambulance NI

Air Ambulance (AANI) is a charity in Northern Ireland which works in partnership with the NI Ambulance Service to provide helicopter emergency services for the region. Serious or life threatening situations can happen at any time. On average this happens daily in NI with two individuals finding themselves in critical need of AANI.

The charity’s operation helicopter carries a crew compiling pilot, doctor, and also a paramedic. Operating 365 days a year, 12 hours a day. Attending some of the most traumatic medical incidents, AANI are dedicated to delivering the best possible pre-hospital critical care both at the scene and while also transferring patients to the hospital.

AANI completed 3,093 taskings between July 2017 to July 2022. GUK donations is intended to help the charity continue their work.

In an emergency situation, rapid response is vital. If a patient reaches a hospital within the golden hour (60 minutes) their chances of survival are significantly increased. The AANI AW109 helicopter can get anywhere in the province in approximately 25 mins, providing lifesaving treatment.

It takes £5,000 a day for the AANI services. Annually, this totals up to £2 million to keep the air ambulance service operational. The charity solely relies on support from the public and local business to keep the service operational. Carole, our Operations Manager donated her full £250 to the charity. The donation will help AANI continue to provide outstanding critical care when it’s needed the most.

    Macmillan Cancer Support

Right now, more than 3 million people are living with cancer in the UK. By 2030 this figure will rise to 4 million. Macmillan helps everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, by providing physical, financial, and emotional support. The charity does whatever it takes, no matter what a person’s needs are. They will listen and support them however they need to — big or small.

Macmillan raise money to provide vital cancer services, research, campaign to achieve better cancer care, and support the cancer workforce.

Macmillan is 98% funded by voluntary donations. Thus, fundraising is essential to ensure they can deliver the vital support people living with cancer need. Running public campaigns, building partnerships, and influencing decision-makers on all cancer-related policies at UK-wide, national, and local levels is another part of what Macmillan do.

Additionally, the charity supports the Cancer workforce by providing health care professionals with up-to-date resources, tools, information, and training courses to help them support people living with cancer. Macmillan further helps employers support staff, offering guidance and resources to help managers and HR professionals feel confident and equipped to support employees affected by cancer.

Our Marketing Executive, Megan, donated her £250 to the Macmillan unit operating out of Antrim Area Hospital. The donation will go toward providing services which are focused round supporting palliative care patients at home or in hospital.

    Specialist Joinery Project Santa

Project Santa & Specialist Christmas Wonderland Experience was born in 2017 to raise money for Specialist Joinery Groups 30 years in business charity legacy of £100,00. Through ticket sales and donations for the two days an amazing total of £24,745.00 was raised and every penny of this was donated to 10 key charities, which were chosen by their staff. Moreover, to maximize the money going to charity, Specialist Group sponsored all associated costs and catering outlets which operated within the venue and donated their profits to the charities listed.

Due to the success of the project, Specialist Joinery Group continued this annually to raise money for charities who needed it most.

Ciara from our operations team used the remaining amount of her donation toward the project. This year, all money raised is going to 12 charities:
